17th C chateau with elegant rooms and outbuildings in peaceful hamlet

The chateau was built in 1670 for the granddaughter of Nicolas Rambourg, architect of Chateau d'Hautefort. Her descendants enlarged the house in the 18th century. The property is on the edge of a peaceful hamlet, and has a beautiful walled garden. An oak tree planted in the Revolution stands proudly at the front gate. The surrounding region is rich in historic and architectural interest. The nearby village of Hautefort is a delight, dominated by its magnificent 17th century chateau built by the Marquis de Hautefort for his sister who was mistress to Louis XIII.

Thirty minutes to the south are the UNESCO world heritage sites of the prehistoric settlements of the Vézère Valley, including the famous caves at Lascaux. A little further is the Chateau d’Eyrignac, which has one of France’s most beautiful gardens. To the north one can visit the spectacular chateaux of Jumilhac and Puyguilhem, and Thiviers, the region’s foie gras capital.
