History The chateau was built in 1773 on the foundations of a medieval fortress. It is believed to be the work of a famous Toulouse architect - Jean-Arnaud Raymond. It sits on top of a hill looking over valleys of agricultural land towards the Pyrenees. It was granted historical status in 1977 and thus the roof, facade, window frames and certain rooms have restrictions. Its architecture is unique for the area with a large vestibule in palladien style with a 5 metre high ceiling, columns, pillars, ornate cornices, monumental vases and wide staircases on both sides. The 5 reception rooms have marble fireplaces and in the rotunda the parquet flooring is inlaid with an hexagonal pattern. There is stucci work in a number or rooms. Most of the bedrooms have been sympathetically restored retaining the original character. Key points Historic monument status Symmetrical floor plan over 3 levels (one the basement) plus an attic Restored with taste and character A few rooms require to be completed Modern conveniences installed Private location but not isolated Far reaching views towards the Pyrenees Set in 5.45 hectares enclosed on all sides Mature gardens with many trees centuries old trees Easy access to Toulouse - airport, train and motorway The chateau The chateau is in a dominant hilltop position in the Gers countryside overlooking valleys mainly of agricultural land and thus provides spectacular views of the Pyrenees. Although it sits at the edge of a village it is totally private and its 5.45 hectares is enclosed on all sides by woodland and mature trees. The exterior is imposing with wide stone steps up to the entrance. The style of the interior is surprising and magnificent with pillars, ornate cornices, stucci work, elaborate parquet flooring. The building (1000m2) is totally symmetrical over its 2 floors and to the rear there is a rotunda. The rooms are spacious and large windows make them luminous. They have been renovated with attention to the style and character of the chateau. There are 5 reception rooms, 6 bedrooms, 2 suites and a further 2 suites to be completed. The bedrooms all have either shower or bathrooms. There is a modern dining kitchen and the usual service areas. Modern conveniences have been installed - central heating, electronic gates with video at each entrance, modern kitchen and bathrooms, internet VDSL2 , exterior lighting etc. There are a few rooms requiring finishing and the services connections have been taken to them. The basement is of similar proportions and has been exploited for small functions with a discotheque, bar and reception room as well as services. There is a stair to the large attic area. Other buildings There is an agricultural building of 250m2 on one level, which could be converted into a gîte or used as stables. The roof has been renewed but the rest requires a complete renovation. There is no swimming pool but permission was sought and the site identified by the planners. Currently there is a 5 person jacuzzi. Gardens and grounds The grounds are fairly easy to maintain as they are set predominantly to lawns . There is a formal French garden to the front and numerous century old oak, cedar, lime and sequoia trees which create privacy. There are terraces to the front and rear. There are two electronic entrance gates with a long tree lined driveway joining them. To one side is the chateau and to the other the agricultural building and a small lake. Estate Location The chateau is situated at the edge of the Gers and is well placed particularly for Toulouse. It is an easy 20/25 minute drive, mostly by motorway to the international airport at Blagnac with onward connections to Paris. There is a train station at l’Isle-Jordain which is 5 kms distant and has an excellent quick service to Toulouse and onward via TGV to other destinations. L’Isle -Jordain is the nearest town with a wide range of facilities and commerce and of course the centre of Toulouse with all its commerce and cultural activities can be accessed easily. The village itself is mostly for commuters and the life style is rural.
